MRI Images for Multiple Sclerosis
MRI: Magnetic Resonance Imaging
The MRI is the preferred method of detecting Multiple Sclerosis in patients; MRI images for Multiple Sclerosis became available in the mid-1980’s and due to the tissue contrast of the MRI, it is better at detecting plaques than the CAT scan.
The following are MRI images of people with Multiple Sclerosis; pay close attention to the white abnormalities which are spots where Multiple Sclerosis has damaged the myelin in the brain. 95% of all Multiple Sclerosis lesions occur in the white matter of the brain; although the number of lesions cannot be correlated to disability, the location of the lesions may be directly related to the type of symptoms a Multiple Sclerosis patient may experience.
Bright T2 lesions of MS affecting the white matter of the brain including around the venrticles(large dark areas in the center) and just beneath the grey matter of the cortex . Inflammation and demyelination is occurring in the bright areas which are called lesions
